Brand new from TaylorMade as a complement to the other family members in the P700 iron series are the P790 irons, which might just prove to be the most versatile iron in TaylorMade’s lineup. After all, these are irons that have a forged construction and new technology that’s helping to offer incredible feel, and they also feature clean, compact head designs with thinner toplines and minimal offset. But at the same time, the P790 irons are delivering incredible distance numbers, impressive forgiveness, and effortlessly high launch conditions. That combination will make these irons a popular option for a wide range of players from an ability level, which was the goal, as TaylorMade engineers wanted to give golfers the players iron look they love with the game-improvement playability they need. The P790 irons also feature a unique construction. While they look like blades, each iron features a hollow construction and clubhead that has been filled with SpeedFoam, a new technology from TaylorMade. The SpeedFoam fills the cavity and offers soft, responsive feel at impact, but it also supports an ultra-thin 1.75mm clubface that utilizes inverted cone technology to create faster ball speeds from all impact points. The hollow construction along with the use of tungsten weighting also enables an optimal CG position through the set to maximize performance and MOI with each club. Also of note, the cut-thru Speed Pocket on the sole of the club offers improved flexibility to promote consistent distance and protects ball speed on low-face strikes. P790 irons are being offered with two stock shaft options, the True Temper Dynamic Gold 105 steel or the UST Recoil 780 or 760 ES graphite, while the stock grip is the Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360.
